Research
Upon returning from a two-year mission to Ecuador, I continued working toward the completion of my BS in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida. Research has always been an interest of mine, and I began to acquire priceless experience in fieldwork during high school. I was able to work with primatologists and herpetologists alike at the Biological Field Station of Ometepe, located in lake Nicaragua, Nicaragua. There, I gained experience in radio telemetry and field observations. Our focus was on the boas that inhabited the island, testing their territoriality and homing abilities by relocating them from their catch site and tracking their movements, in hopes that they would return "home." Out of high school I was privileged to be able to accompany Dr. Harvey Lillywhite of the Zoology department during his field studies at the UF Marine Laboratory at Seahorse Key, where he studies the behavior, genetics, physiology and ecology of insular populations of cottonmouth snakes and their mutualism with nesting birds. I also working with marine mammals at Sea Life Park in Hawaii during 2007.
Currently, I am involved in research with graduate student Seth Bybee, working with the phylogeny and evolution of feeding and oviposition behaviors of the South American Helicopter Damselflies (Pseudostigmatidae: Odonata). I am also interested in their ecology and their potential to be used as environmental indicators.
After completing my BA at the University of Florida, I plan to attend graduate school in a field still yet to be determined.
Personal
The University of Florida has always played a huge role in my life. Almost my entire family has attended school here. Working in academia has always been a dream of mine. My grandfather was a professor and Department Chair of the Romance Language department, and my father is currently a professor in the College of Engineering. I am happily engaged to my best friend and the love of my life, and will be married in August of 2008. I enjoy a wide array of activities, including surfing, skim boarding, traveling, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, spear fishing, rock climbing, raising reptiles, speaking Spanish, wood working and doing almost anything outdoors that you can imagine.
